Madeira Beach is a city of 4500 residents located west of St. Petersburg and South of Seminole. The land that Madeira Beach sits on did not exist in its present form until 1848 when a devastating hurricane cut through the barrier islands and created a waterway known as John’s Pass. There was some development on Madeira Beach in the early 1900’s but it was the opening of the first bridge to St. Petersburg in 1926 that allowed the area to grow up. Ultimately, in 1947, a hundred years after a hurricane created the place we know as Madeira Beach.
Why Do I Need a Prenup?
Prenuptial agreements were formerly believed to only be for the rich, but the fact of the matter is everyone has valuable assets that should be protected through a prenup.
Prenups Pass Property to the Right People: Many individuals have children from previous relationships or marriages. Without a prenup in place, one’s surviving spouse can claim a large piece of the deceased spouse’s property, leaving little to nothing for those children.
Protects You from Debt: Most people today enter into a relationship with some level of debt. A prenup can protect each spouse from one another’s debt load and can help couples clarify their financial rights and responsibilities in the marriage.
Makes Divorce go Smoothly: In the unfortunate event that you may enter into divorce with your spouse, a prenup will clearly specify which property goes to who, making the divorce process go smoothly and quickly.
Drafting Your Own Prenup
Individuals don’t need to wait to see a lawyer to begin separating assets and drafting his or her own prenuptial agreement. What is important, however, is that it is looked over by an attorney familiar with prenuptial agreements to make sure that it is understandable, clear, and legally sound.
